What Was The Best Moment In Fandom For You?

'Best' is purely up to interpretation! Whatever comes to mind works!

There are a lot of bests for me, but I really like the moments in my doll fandom when everybody is squeeing over how cute everything is and just bonding over the excitement. Sometimes, certain items can’t ship to other countries straight from the company website, and whenever someone expresses disappointment over that, there are always at least three people saying that they would be willing to buy the item for that person and ship it to them while only asking for the cost of the item and the shipping in return. If an item is sold out online, people will look for it in store and then pass it on to the people looking for it. I just think it’s really nice.

When something big and unexpected hits and you could go on your tumblr dashboard and find everyone going "what the hell is this" and commenting/reblogging a ton of posts.

My most prevalent example is when Nick moved Korra S3 to online only halfway through the season.

Playing a new game or reading a new book alongside fandom friends and then comparing notes/progress. Obviously, long before the dawn of Youtube.

I miss that. There's so little to be said about it, but it means a lot.

reconnecting with a childhood favorite. it was a series i grew up with, but i was never able to fully enjoy it or get invested in it until a few years ago when i found the episodes online. that was also around the time i fully made the move to ao3, and found a plethora of fic to get caught up on. the hype has worn off now, but that time still means a hell of a lot me.

Getting obsessed with fandom.

That first six months to a year that I have a new OTP, where I'm just wildly obsessed with them.

I enjoyed thinking of headcanons and fun aus for my OTP. Those were the days.

All the giddiness of a new relationship, without any of the existential angst about whether an actual person likes you as much or not! It is truly a marvellous feeling.

Someone got inspired to write a fic based on a really crappy drawing of mine where a m/m ship were drawn in 1920s clothing - and this person wrote up a long one-shot that was set in the prohibition era with gangsters, which was one of the best things I had read.

It kills me that I didn't think to save it - it was posted up on Y!gallery and went down with the rest of the site. But still it was kind of cool to have given inspiration to make something like that.

HP fandom between OotP and HBP. It was so huge and literally anything was game.

Yeeeeees! It's still the place where the BEST fic are set. Everything was up for grabs and it was just A+ perfection

When someone (unprompted) made a banner for my fic (early days of posting, so I was highly honored and it was actually a really nice banner!).

Now my dream is for someone to send me the fan mix they made for any fic I've written lol

I was the only person writing fic for a rarepair, and then suddenly the ship was made canon on the show (and it was well-done, too!). Me & my established fandom friends were popping bottles and welcoming a bunch of new shippers that year, and it was awesome. :)

Flying across the country to meet up with fandom friends and then squeeing over our fave for a few days while going out drinking and pigging out in some great bars and restaurants!

Being a GSR shipper when Grissom/Sara was made canon was pretty delightful. Especially because it wasn't one of those ships that was obviously going to become canon eventually. For years it seemed like it probably wasn't going to be canon ever.

Being part of a cosplay group that reenacted the opera from Final Fantasy VI onstage in front of an audience. Childhood dream that I would never have expected to be able to fulfill? Fulfilled. <3

(And no I wasn't Celes. I was Prince Ralse. I got to have a choreographed duel with Draco. It was SO MUCH FUN.)

Going to Tokyo and shopping in secondhand anime shops. Kyoto and Osaka had some finds, too, but Tokyo was fucking boss.
