Which genre do you most often read or watch?

(Anonymous) 2020-09-28 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Fantasy, science fiction, horror, western, drama, romance, et cetera... it may not necessarily be your 'favorite' genre of media but which one do you find yourself most often exploring or returning to? Why?

Horror. It's the most relatable for me, what with having seen some shit throughout the years. I also find it cathartic; it's easier to deal with terrible events in fiction than it is reality.

Fantasy tops, followed by science fiction that has a fantasy feel, followed by fantasy horror and scifi horror and straight up science fiction.

I read mostly horror. I'll read like 1-2 books a year and then during fall, I will read 6-7 horror novels.

I mostly watch drama.

Science fiction, because it's nice to imagine a world where being a capitalist is more problematic than being queer.

Honestly, 50/50 between fantasy and science fiction. I love them both in quite different ways, and have done so as long as I can remember, to the point where it's hard to pick one over the other.

Sci-fi is my favorite, some fantasy, i love historical stuff (i fall on the side of 'true history' rather than sexed up CW history), supernatural stuff if it's more like Supernatural, not so much like Paranormal.

Fantasy with romance plots.

I like my escape from reality to really be an escape from reality.

If the romance is between two regular people I start thinking about how they're going to live in the city on their combined income when one of them writes poetry and the other one crochets dog sweaters or whatever.

Mostly comedy, closely followed by fantasy and sci-fi.

I like to have a laugh, but sometimes I like to over-think certain comedy settings and imagined alternative versions - especially when it can be made angsty.

Drama and horror, even better if it's a mashup of the two and the horror isn't supernatural. Really enjoy watching characters pushed to their limits. In terms of horror, not into gore so much as suspense.

I've been reading a lot of romance over the past year or so, which surprised me because I used to revile it, and now...well, now it's just what I like. Of course, it's not the only genre, but I find myself enjoying it (and seeing what's out there and if I have a chance. I have decided we all have a chance at writing lol).

i'll always gravitate towards fantasy and sci-fi over everything else, but i also really like period dramas. but ones that are about made-up people in a historical setting, not based on real events or people of the past.

i usually like to have some romance in these stories as well but i'm not hard-and-fast on that, if i'm enjoying it idc if it's romance-lite ultimately.

Murder mysteries, these days. I read a lot of fantasy, but it's all old favs. I'm always down for new murder mysteries though.

Literary fiction. Honestly, I think literary fiction's reputation for strong characterization is unearned. It's more often REALISTIC characterization, but as often as not, it's the prose that has the spotlight. I'm a sucker for strong prose, but sometimes I get sick of it and want to read something fun for once.
