Re: What Was The Most Romantic Scene For You In Media?
For non-canon, I have to go with my OTP, Melkor/Sauron. I know I'm the only one who ships them. And I'm well aware that it wasn't intended by Tolkien to be romantic. But to me, Melkor surrendering to Manwe and co at the end of the War of Wrath and allowing Sauron to escape, given that Melkor was the only Valar who knew fear and that he had to know that this time he was not going to be allowed to escape, was some kind of gesture. So personally as someone who does interpret them as being in love, I do read it as a romantic gesture, him deciding to give Sauron time to escape when he knew there was no chance of victory. And then later in Numenor, when Sauron creates a religion involving worshipping Melkor because all those millennia later Melkor is still in his mind and heart and to me his actions in Numenor were a romantic gesture, a love note to Melkor.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-28 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)Kae Tempest's Firesmoke comes to mind, as does Etheridge You Can Sleep While I Drive.
I sometimes read Howl that way, "ah carl, while you are not safe, I am not safe, and now you're stuck in the total animal soup of time"
And "I'm with you in Rockland in my dreams you walk dripping from a sea-journey on the highway across America in tears to the door of my cottage in the Western night"

I don't see a lot of sensual and affectionate gestures by men in my media and I love it. Usually it's only included as foreplay or for the benefit of the woman. He just looks happy to be with her.

When Miller find Julie Mao and helps her to understand what's happening, and to make it so Eros went somewhere else.....
It was 'romantic' in the regular sense, but it makes me bawl every time, and it's a wonderful, incredible scene.

Basically Sue arranges a mystery for Ralph (a detective) every year for his birthday and it's just the sweetest thing ever!

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 01:24 am (UTC)(link)Jaime Lannister trusting Brienne of Tarth with his secrets, and Brienne catching him in the bath when he faints.
Jaime going back to Harrenhal to rescue Brienne from the bear pit.
Jaime having a custom dress and custom armor made for Brienne, and entrusting a sword and his honor to her.
Jaime slowly replacing Renly as the object of Brienne's affections in Brienne's dreams.
Brienne paying back the Bloody Mummers by deliberately cutting off the hand of one of their guys (after they had cut off Jaime's hand earlier). It was a 3 vs 1 battle, damn impressive. Look, the topic DOES say "subjective," okay? :P
Jaime punching Red Ronnet in the mouth using his golden hand because he won't stop insulting Brienne (and she isn't there to defend herself).
Brienne calling out for Jaime during her fever dreams after the horrifying encounter with Biter.
Jaime blurting out "innocence" when asked what he likes most in a woman (the book characters are a few years younger than their show counterparts, but this also one of the subtler signs that he's done with Cersei).
Anytime Jaime makes a mental note of Brienne's eyes.
I'm sure I forgot a couple but oh well.
(So yeah, I wasn't very happy about D&D's "checklist" ending. Even if the show was different, they "kind of forgot" what made that pairing special in the first place.)
