I don't *get* it. What does 'core' have to do with...anything? It makes no sense at all. Is there some underlying 'original' thing that makes it all clear? Because it's just...nonsense.

I imagined it to be a portmanteau of THING and "hardcore". Like, for example if you have a choice between a normal ceramic mug and a foofy tea cozy you'll go tea cozy all day er'ry day because cottage aesthetic.

Core is just the new Punk.

Still nonsense, though i kinda get it. What utter tripe.

That's just my interpretation. I have no idea if it's accurate.

Hardcore music, and then subsequent music genres based off that like mathcore

It just seems to silly to append it to...bread.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-29 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
That's the point. It's a joke about the absurd proliferation something-core subgenres and aesthetics.

(Anonymous) 2020-09-28 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
It probably started with hardcore punk in the 70s, which spawned queercore and emocore. And then rock critics went a bit nuts with it.

Of coz they did.

From what I understand '-core' seems to be a way of finding an interest in aesthetics/themes in the tags and a sort of semi-roleplay fantasy; such as goblincore with an interest in nature or thrifting as well as creatures such as insects and frogs (especially frogs to a point where that could be its own thing of interest), and saying things like 'Oh to live in a swamp to become moss and not have to worry about everyday stress.'

Although I understand why it seems confusing, for the most part it usually seems like its just harmless fun (until of course somebody either abandons common sense and takes something too far like romanticizing things that REALLY should not be romanticized or it gets taken over by harmful ideaology, etc)

Oh, I'm sure it's harmless. Just seems incredibly weird to stick that onto basically...everything.
