For me, there was a point when his movies went from atmospheric and weird to off-putting and weird.

I really liked a few of his earlier films Beetlejuice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, and Batman Returns and I thought Big Fish and Sleepy Hollow were okay, though I had some issues with both. I didn't get into Nightmare Before Christmas (though he didn't actually direct that one), something about the stop-motion just didn't work for me, but I get why people like it. I didn't want to watch Ed Wood. I didn't really like Pee-wee's Big Adventure, but it wasn't terrible. I very much disliked Mars Attacks! But from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on, I haven't wanted to see anything of his, though I may actually watch Beetlejuice 2, if it actually happens.

Honestly, the only movie he's made in the last 20 years that really worked for me was Big Eyes. I suspect it's because Walter Keane as a character is very comfortable for him given Big Fish and Ed Wood (which is the other film that sticks out as exceptional for me).

Looking up on IMDB, I forgot Miss Peregrine even existed, which says a lot about the impression it left on me.
