Have you got a fire alarm in your house? If so I would test whether they can hear it from their bedroom without them noticing. If they don't hear it then take them aside, explain your concerns based on the radio and then demonstrate right in front of them that they cannot hear the fire alarm from their bedroom. That should be a wake up call.
