I have one, I've had it for years (I have IBS-A). This is what I do: 1.) Use witch hazel pads and Preparation H ointment for bad flare ups, they really help, 2.) Add more water and fiber to your diet but add the fiber gradually, and 3.) Keep the area CLEAN. If you are itchy, you are not clean. Use baby wipes when you poop. Wrap a wipe around your fingertip and clean yourself carefully, use a witch hazel pad to finish and then pat dry (don't wipe) with clean toilet paper. If you're irritated and dry back there, use a little coconut oil on a cotton pad and dab the oil on. Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory. And finally, if things get worse or don't improve within a week or two, see a doctor.

I am trying to drink more. I am dreading having to poop cuz I know it is going to hurt. I hope it doesn't like...burst an artery.

A stool softener might help with that, and if you go that route, be sure to get a softener only, not a softener/laxative.
