Do you stay in the fandom even after you've lost interest in the new canon stuff?
(Anonymous) 2020-10-06 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)And related: do you stay in the fandom even after there's nothing new coming out ever again?

(Anonymous) 2020-10-06 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)Most of my fandoms have been dead for years, if not decades, so yes, I definitely stick around even if nothing new has come out for it. Ah ha~
Re: Do you stay in the fandom even after you've lost interest in the new canon stuff?
(Anonymous) 2020-10-06 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)I usually like the early seasons of a show the best. Before they start killing characters off for drama or they jump the shark plot-wise.
If it gets that bad I stop watching and just ignore everything after that point. If the fandom is big enough I usually find other people who feel the same and we write and read AUs and canon divergence stuff and laugh together over how terrible the later seasons are.
I think most of my fandoms are "over" in the sense that there's nothing new planned. I actually prefer it that way. I don't enjoy everyone complaining about the latest episode or arguing over whether their ships will become canon or not.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-06 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)If I've watched something to the end however then yes, I'll still be in the fandom. There's more than a handful of shows/movies where I still check-out the fic for specific ships because I didn't fall out of love with the canon, it just ended, but I'm still invested in the story and love the characters.
Re: Do you stay in the fandom even after you've lost interest in the new canon stuff?
(Anonymous) 2020-10-06 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)Honestly, the older I get, the more canon is just the spark that starts the fire for me.
Re: Do you stay in the fandom even after you've lost interest in the new canon stuff?
(Anonymous) 2020-10-06 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)But closed canon fandom's are more enjoyable to me than ongoing ones.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 12:18 am (UTC)(link)I just mark my fic as AU and do what I want with the canon I love.
