(Anonymous) 2020-10-06 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)Especially with all the conflicting info about what is and isn't correct.
Most fics don't mention characters taking a shit. So is it that big a deal if the act of douching isn't mentioned?
Same with the weird eye rolling that happened with the '3 fingers isn't necessary just use lube and its fine' discourse on Tumblr. All of a sudden fic authors were torn between being 'authentic' and writing something erotic.
People who complain about fanfic sex being unrealistic need to wander on over to a regular erotica site and see whats up. It's so much fucking worse.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 12:28 am (UTC)(link)Huh. I missed that phase. I've only ever heard the other side of that argument, where everybody's like, "There must be lots of prep. If there is insufficient prep, it will be excruciating and there could be serious damage!!!"
I'm fine with both, personally. Some people need a lot of prep, others don't.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 01:05 am (UTC)(link)Somebody decided to speak for the entire gay male population and proceeded to write a very long and condescending reply on someone else's post.
It basically boiled down to saying that 3 finger 'rule' was ludicrous, finger scissoring was ludicrous, most gay men don't even use one finger for prep and that on the whole, most guys just lube up and stick it in. And that the whole thing was treating gay men like delicate flowers.
And everyone thanked this person for their unwanted input, treated their words like law and people (including the person who's post this person hijacked) proceeded to apologize for not writing realistic porn according to this one randos guidelines. It was an embarrassing time and i remember seeing a lot of posts afterwards from people who were genuinely distressed that they had wrote fic using 'the 3 finger rule'.
It was WILD.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 01:38 am (UTC)(link)I feel like there was a period of time where internet social justice was first taking off in a big way, and during that time, a lot of people didn't think to question it. That was also the period where the attitude that condoms were a MUST in your smut was extremely prevalent--and if your characters didn't use condoms you were Doing It Wrong and being seriously irresponsible and also maybe being homophobic because you were implying that gay men were careless about protection.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 03:17 am (UTC)(link)Oh my god yes. I witnessed all of that. Honestly the social justice mobs (a portion of whom were antis that just hadn't been named that yet) held so much power back then. It feels like we're only just recovering from the damage they did.
I think that's why fandom creator's who made the move to Twitter are so incredibly reactive whenever they see that old rhetoric rearing it's head in a fandom space. It can't be allowed to grow as big as it did back then, we are still dealing with the fallout.
There's no polite discourse or agree to disagree with these people anymore, it's kill or be killed.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 03:58 am (UTC)(link)This is a ridiculous and over-extreme phrase to use

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 09:58 am (UTC)(link)Its like you had to find something that you could get morally outraged about. And now you won't drop it.
Thank christ that for the most part, you and your sad friends are shouting into a void now. Where you all belong.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-07 01:22 am (UTC)(link)At least fandom writers have AU's as a way to explain some odd character behaviors...
