I'm the same. They're all ships. I don't think of myself as a slasher because I ship Merlin/Arthur.

I'm not in the Merlin fandom at all. Never even seen an ep of the show. So I may be miles off the mark here, but I've gotten the impression from the outside that it's a very slash-heavy fandom?

As somebody who tends to really only be interested in fic about female characters in my fandoms (they're just always the ones with whom I identify), I've been in the situation of having to scroll through pages and pages of new fic in fandom comms to find anything that wasn't entirely about male characters/only had female characters in it to bash (an unfortunate downside to slash's predominance sometimes).

So it seems to me to be jumping the gun a little to go from 'slash free' to 'homophobe' without further supporting evidence. There are other legitimate reasons for wanting a slash filter - time management no the least of them.

It is a very slash-heavy fandom (though as of yet the female characters aren't being bashed at all, and there's a lot of femslash too), and I don't think that the owner of that comm is automatically being homophobic.
The thing is, someone I know who runs a dA society once had someone refuse to affiliate with them solely because they had some slightly homoerotic art posted, so it does happen. I'm not jumping to conclusions (and I think the chances are that this isn't the same thing at all), but I'm slightly dubious now.

*Nods* I do know that there are anti-slash sentiments out there which are legitimately unsettling in their anti-LGBTQI roots.

I just also think that, yeah, it pays to be careful about labelling anti-slash as homophobic, because there are subtler reasons behind it sometimes.

Weirdly, I know quite a few femslashers who would probably be open to accusations of being anti-slash because of the way they pick and choose (and set up) comms which filter out slash but tend to be that bit more open to het.

Srsly? That's... weird. About the femslashers.
Then again, I've met people in the Merlin fandom who ship the femslash pairings but not the slash because they just can't stand slash. *shrug* I dunno, fandom is weird.

Yeah. I guess it's cause femslash, despite often getting harangued in as a subset of slash in general, also tends to have a high contingent of fen who lack the love of hot men which is a large part of what I shall, with horribly broad brush strokes, term 'slash culture'.

"Fandom is weird" is possibly the one absolutely undeniable truism of fandom, I think. :D

I know little about femslash - I can't think of any femslash pairings I really ship, offhand. I don't write any.
