She was boring and lackluster in Wildfire too, watching someone watch paint dry is more entertaining and fulfilling than watching her attempt to act.

Ruby is a horrible character as it is, but Cortese takes her to a whole new level of fail.

Your complaints about Ruby are dead on, but they contradict your statement that Cortese isn't to blame.

Have you thought about having a default statement saved somewhere about how much you hate Ruby? You could just ctrl+v it in any time someone mentions her. It would save you a lot of time because you never say anything new or interesting.

If you don't like ANY female character on a show you otherwise enjoy/feel is good, then you're showving an active dislike based on gender [excepting shows like OZ or Queer As Folk (US) which literally had only a handful of reoccuring women]. That's not sexism, it's misogyny.

And a lot of fans display it.

They say "It's not like I don't like Jo, she was just badly written!" "What about Ruby?" "She was flat!" "Bela?" "A bitch, why would I like a bitch?" "Ava?" "Whiny!" "Ellen?" "Uninteresting!" "Either version of Mary?" "Dude, she totally doesn't count, she was only there for, what, like, an episode."

Continue ad nauseum until you run out of female characters on the show. Then turn around and ask "Andy?" and the reply is "Totally awesome!" ad nauseum.

A lot of it probably comes to holding female characters to higher standards as women, but it's there all the same and it's a form of misogyny, a dislike or distrust of women, and not sexism.
