The source handled complex issues well and demonstrated a thorough understanding of said issues, as a call to society to improve itself. These kids are taking someone else's decades/centuries long struggle, that they have no actual knowledge or understanding of, and haphazardly co opting it so their OOC sexy time fanfic will have a more exciting backdrop. Not the same thing.

I think that's fair!

IDK. I've read some fics in the fandom that I think do this - transpose the characters into a modern setting dealing with modern issues (albeit not BLM specifically) fairly well. So I probably have those fics in mind even though they're probably not at all what you're actually talking about.

Yeah, I'm sure there are some out there who deal with those things well. It's just that I keep seeing the terrible ones on my dash and all over AO3 and it's really starting to get on my nerves.
