I had to give away my most prized possession a year ago. It was a longtime loan and after thirteen years, its owners needed it back. I took it hard. I don't know if that numbed me, strengthened me or whether I'm just not attached like that to anything else, but if my room went up in flames right now there's nothing irreplaceable. There are one or two things I have some sentimental attachment to but even if I broke or lost them, I'd get over it quickly.
What a sad life.
