Not only is this book badly written, it's also "problematic" to an almost ironic degree, given the writer's intense self-righteousness
• Gay guy dies to provide angst and drama
• Latina is brutally beaten, main character is pleased
• Disabled guy is maimed (in completely impossible way), but oh no! The protagonist is Upset! That's the priority!
• Latino is shot by a cop, latina is upset, main character wants to remind her "This isn't about you"
But a number of writers I respect like it, so I'll just die mad.

I was gonna say! FFA has had some long and detailed threads dissecting everything wrong with this book. (The "latina lesbian was beaten up by police, main character 'wondered if it would be enough'" is the wham moment that's always stuck with me...)

Might help clarify your thoughts & boost your confidence about disagreeing with people who like it, too.
