Just offer an apology and come back anon. All of us need time out now and again. And at least then your fandom friends will know you're okay.

Some options:

- Post a single blanket explanation/apology, explaining that you had to be away for RL reasons, and you're sorry for disappearing, etc, but you're back now and looking forward to fandom again

- Ignore your old accounts altogether and start fresh on a new name. Works if you want to just get in without baggage from before, but does have the downside that old friends don't know what happened to you

- Hybrid of the above, post an explanation to your old accounts that you're fine but leaving fandom, then start fresh with a new name

Excellent suggestions :).

It's never "too late" to return to fandom, OP, so if you do choose to return, I hope all goes well for you as you settle back in.

Come back, anon. I am 100% certain there are people who miss you and will be happy to see you again.

As someone who disappeared from a fandom for over 10 years, only to come back to a radical sea change and anti-ism where there hadn't been: please do come back. Your old friends probably miss you and would be understanding.

It happens to me a lot. I've just gotten active again on Tumblr and no one seems to mind that I was gone for months.

I can relate OP! I left my art-Tumblr/Twitter behind end of last year and now I'm a little scared to come back. I did leave a "Hiatus" mensage, but now I'm not so sure when to come back or if anyone even misses me.

I usually see people post something like, “Back from my hiatus”, and then just get back to engaging in fandom.

When I came back, most of my old friends had left fandom permanently, so I just made a whole new account for myself.

Update your journal/other social media places with something like this:

"Sorry about disappearing, I was (having health problems, having mental health problems, extremely busy because I had a baby, extremely busy trying to get my PHD, etc.) I hope I didn't worry anybody. Also, sorry for any unanswered questions. I was completely swamped.

I hope to be more active now, and hope you all are doing well!"

Life happens. Fandom friends are usually good about understanding this.
