NEEDING to write the characters meeting for the first time so that you can fill space talking about their appearance and how attracted they are to the other and whathaveyou Bingo. You've solved it, I think. Think how easy it would be to preserve a lot of canon relationships even in the most cookie-cutter scenarios. A can work in a coffee shop but B can still be his friend that he's known for years who knows about his abusive dad and B can still think A is super fine, it's not like we only develop crushes on people we've just met. But then you're going off-formula and oh, now we need a different instigating incident to get them together. Writing hard.
