Anyone doing anything for Halloween or is your area locked down?

No Halloween this year around here. And I usually do a party every year for my Toastmasters club, but this year my club is still meeting virtually, so no party.

However, I'm on my own since the parents are away, so at least I can watch some horror movies on the big tv. I've set Halloween, Wicker Man (original), and Candyman to record (those were the ones I could find on tv that I wanted to watch).

Where I live (SF Bay area), we have been advised not to trick or treat. People will, tho, of course, but I'll keep my porch light off. I'm planning to make homemade pizza, drink a good bottle of wine, and watch old horror movies with my husband.

I usually dress up and give out candy, but this year, I'm just going to dress up and binge all the Treehouse of Horror episodes.

No, my country doesn't really do Halloween but I still have a weird nostalgia about it because I watched lots of american movies when I was a kid.

I also didn't know "fall" was autumn for years. I just thought there was a weird fifth season where everything died in other countries. I was concerned because how do you eat food when you can't grow anything? I genuinely thought americans lived like squirrels.

*pfft haha* Now I'm picturing trick or treating as vital prep for the long months with no crops; gotta stockpile high-calorie treats!

I mean, there are places in the US where fresh vegetables and fruit have to be stored or shipped in for winter because everything is frozen or covered in snow, so you're not entirely wrong?

On the other hand, fall is the start of the growing season for many native plants and typical spring crops in southern California where I am; peas, leeks, carrots, lettuce, potatoes, onions, spinach, broccoli, and strawberries go in the ground from September-January here. We generally don't get any rain from late May to late September, and unfortunately climate change is shrinking our rainy season.

I intend to dress up whether or not I have anywhere to go - have a few costumes laid out but nothing decided yet. I've put up some decorations and will probably have a movie marathon with snacks - maybe even bake something Halloween themed.

I was super excited to go nuts with my decorations and costume this year, because Halloween is on a full moon Saturday, but with COVID it doesn't even feel like a holiday.

I might wander the neighborhood in costume, whether one of my big fancy bustle gowns or a creepy closet cosplay plague doctor. I really *want* to hand out candy and carve pumpkins like usual, but I know that would be irresponsible as fuck. I kind of wish my county or city would ban trick or treating just so I won't feel guilty if I skip handing out candy. California is only "strongly discouraging" it.

Maybe I'll make a plague doctor scarecrow with a "better luck next year" sign for the yard or front window.

no decision has been made yet on whether they're cancelling trick or treating. so far all the news has been able to do is suggest ways to safely provide candy, so if nothing gets canceled we have plans. separate pieces of candy set out so kids can come up, not touch us, not touch each other, and not touch candy that's touched anyone else.

but honestly things are so bad here and getting worse I'm just waiting for it to be canceled so I can stop thinking about it. I haven't decorated because there's just no point, I don't care anymore.

I always go to a party or Rocky Horror or something but obviously that's not going on now. :(

We're only under very low-level restrictions where I am (and we've had no new cases in a couple of months), so we'll probably get some trick-or-treaters. I wish I knew anyone who was throwing a Halloween party, but if I do they haven't invited me.

I bought a really nice mask a few weeks ago with a pattern of skulls and roses, and it only struck me the other day that it'll be perfect for Halloween.

I live in a big Northeastern city in the USA. I am assuming there won't be any trick-or-treating this year! I'd be surprised if parents took their kids around for candy during all this.

I don't normally do anything - nobody comes to my house (weird placement, nobody wants to walk along Route 66). Mostly they seem to do a lot of 'trunk or treat' here, which may or may not be happening.

The fire dept. usually does at least 5 - 8 trunk or treats, but Chief hasn't bought any candy at all, so.....

I don't think we're 100% locked down but with the Covid, I sure as hell ain't participating in Trick or Treat this year, assuming there is any. Hell, last year, I probably got maybe 4 people anyway.

I haven't heard whether trick or treating has been cancelled. Last I heard the city wasn't going to forbid it and I saw my neighborhood on the list as having a scheduled block of time for it.

I'm not going to pass out candy, though. Cases are spiking here something fierce and I also just don't enjoy passing out candy that much and don't want to deal with making sure I have enough. I'm just going to turn off the porch light and retreat to the rear of the house that night. (I always used to leave and go see a movie or hang out in a coffee shop if I didn't want to pass out candy, but not this year.)
