There was definitely some drama surrounding a writer notorious for writing Sesshoumaru/Rin-as-a-child, but I don't think the aged-up version was especially controversial.

Yep. I remember that period.

People would make multiple mentions and disclaimers that their story depicted Rin as an adult.
I remember it slipping into the fics as well. I saw stories where clothes would always be kimonos and never furisode. It was a very interesting time.
