There's a big difference between 'hey, alternating reading habits between fanfic, published fiction and non-fiction is a fantastic decision. Remember when you'd browse Wikipedia for hours? What happened to THAT person? You've been stuck in tropes for years! You're not a fan of published fiction? Then go buy that space book you liked the look of'.

And 'you are an uneducated cur and a looser if you are proud of primarily reading fanfic, published fiction is superior and you are (as the youth would say) pure cringe'.

If OP had stopped themselves from submitting this secret and instead edited it to withhold the superiority and insults.

And instead focused on the main point which is that they are dismayed to see so many people apparently swearing off published books entirely... we could have all had a nice chat about our reading habits and what we used to spend our time on before fandom.

And we probably would have had a grand time finding out which of us were the Ancient Egypt kids and who were the space kids.

Some of the replies I've read have been abhorrent. I'm certain that there's at least one troll making multiple comments but still... a lot of very mean people here.
