i wouldn't say personally embarrassed in my experience, but i am in some smaller fandoms where like, the canon lore/universe sandbox would be a great place for writers to expand say, elements of the canon that either went unspoken/unwritten, or alternative endings, etc... but because the characters are good-looking or played by an attractive actor, there's a whole swathe of fan writers who write nothing but "here's my oc making out with the hot guy/girl". i filter it out, but sometimes you exhaust the lore-exploration fic and crave more of that stuff, but for every 1 fic like that, there's 100+ OC x hot character fic.

Yeah, this. Canons like that could really benefit from the existence of OCs in fanworks to flesh out the world and the setting! ... except that everyone who writes them only wants to write about them fucking the hot guys/girls they are personally into. It's frustrating.

I also don't understand why they think anyone else wants to read about their own personal self-insert boning the hot guy/girl of their choice. Fantasies like that are like masturbating: it's fine to do in private, but when you do it in public it's not cool.
