... and before some =one says "You get waht you pay for"....

5 or 6 years ago I commissioned a piece of fanart I'd long wanted from 3 different artists. I gave all 3 the same reference materials.

The piece of art I got from the fandom darling -- who charged $200 -- was horrible. (They obviously weren't happy with it either, because they never displayed it anywhere.) They hadn't shown me intermediate sketches, (which I guess should have been a red flag).

On the other hand, the piece of art I got for $60 was absolutely perfect. I was as if I'd been able to hook a color printer up to my brain. I keep my old tumblr around just so I can reblog it every year. (And btw, they had shown me preliminary sketches).

So no, you don't always get what you pay for. Figure out what you can afford and shop around until you find an artist you like who's in your prince range.
