Internet comic/manga/upcoming anime about historical stuff retold in the gayest way possible by human representations of various countries.

The pasty whiteness stems from the fact that "the world" seems to translate to "mostly western europe and east asia" in this case. Also I guess in Japan European = blonde or something.

There's a Cuba, though! He's dark-skinned and ponytailed. Crazy.

Aw, there's no African countries? That would be damn cool. What about Ethiopia? Imagine the fun one could have with that!

It's based on the countries that participated in WWII, so the focus is often on Europe (though it does a good job of covering Western, Eastern and Northern Europe at least) and East Asia. So Egypt is a character, but not the rest of the African countries.

A lot of those African countries were still colonies, they could've done something with that at least...

Colonies who didn't participate en masse in the war. I mean, Australia was also "in the war", but it doesn't exist either.

Mostly, since it's a webcomic that I assume he does in his free time, he's just focusing on the prominent world powers (G8 and all).

Some of those European countries didn't really participate, though. Some of the neutral countries got a character, for example.

Sadly, no. There's an Egypt, at least, but he shows up, uh, slightly more than never in the comic and barely says a word ('cause he's mysterious, doncha know).

More African countries would be SO amazing. There seems to be some number of fans who show up for the slash and stay for the sweet, delicious history; just imagining some of those people sticking around to learn about AFRICAN HISTORY WHICH PRCTICALLY NOBODY EVER TRIES TO LEARN ABOUT is kind of awesome. ~~But then we'd get Berlin Conference wank on the kink meme or something stupid like that and the whole thing would start over again. D:~~

Yeah the whole African history thing bothers me, it's like a lot of people don't even realise there is a history, oi! Egypt could have rocked I suppose, if he was in it.

Seychelles is the main character of the highschool AU game but I don't know how to get a hold of it.

And by "the world" you mean the countries of WWII. Which surprisingly are mostly European/American and East Asian. Give it some credit, it does pay a lot of attention to Eastern Europe and Scandinavia too.

Um...I'd just like to say...I'm American, and most of Europe to me is stereotypically blonde. Germany? Yes. France? Yes. Scandinavia, Switzerland, some Eastern European places? Yes. The ones that don't initially strike me as stereotypically blonde (Spain, Italy, Britain, etc.) aren't in the series either.

Spain, Italy and Britain are in it. And I think Britain is the only blonde one of those three.

Not to say they're not in it, just that they're not blonde in the series. Actually, Britain never quite struck me as blonde (seemed more of a brunette, especially how he's drawn in fanart), but he seems to be REALLY REALLY BLONDE in the anime, so boo. I like him brunette =(

World War II was truly a worldwide war, though. It didn't take place solely in Europe and Asia, countries all over the world took place, even if combat didn't take place there.

I think when you're drawing a comic about it, it's not quite feasible to draw every country in the world. He drew the line somewhere as to who the major players were, and yes it's a shame not every country could be represented. But totally understandable.

I still think it's typical for Japanese people to overlook Africa in general and he had a great opportunity to buck the trend and didn't go for it.

I'm going to sound a little non-PC, but I don't think it's unfair to say that European history is probably a more suitable subject for a webcomic than African history. Not because white people are cooler or anything, but because the European countries were SO DIPLOMATICALLY FAIL. And their military strategies and alliances are easier to SATIRIZE.

After all, this is a comedy, and seeing how much wank Hetalia causes already, I doubt you can get away with making fun of African history, which was and STILL IS tragic. At least European tragedy is in the past.

Well, the inclusion of African colonies would still be European politics and diplomacy, since Europeans were in charge of certain African colonies at that time.

Anyway, I'm not saying OMG NO BLACK PEOPLE as much as I'm saying OMG AFRICA WAS SUCH A LARGE PART OF WWII WHY IS IT EXCLUDED

What about Egypt and Algeria? Weren't those countries involved quite a bit, like the North Africa campaign? Rommel and all that?

I think I remember someone saying Egypt is in there but I don't know about Algeria. In my opinion all of North Africa should be included. HELLO a big chunk of the war took place there

Yeah, Egypt is there. He whacks Italy multiple times with a stick. Don't think he does much else, though.
