That's a bit... extreme. I love AxI and is the fandom darling in Japan (that and PxS). I ship it ♥ now, but I didn't always. I knew it was going to happen since volume 1, chapter 2, duh (also I knew and LOVED PxS since they met, they were also obvious), Dracula has a female van Helsing around in a spin off! WHAT COULD THIS RELATIONSHIP TURN UP TO. Pff. C'mon. Obvious couple is obvious for anyone who knows Dracula spin offs formula.

But I couldn't STAND Alucard until... volume 8, so I only fully ship it when he proved to have more layers to deserve Integra.

It's just not everyone's cup of tea. ~~Lucky for us, it ended up to be Hirano's. :P~~

I ship Alucard/Integra like there's no tomorrow, but looking down on someone because of their shipping preferences is just a bit silly.

Yep! It's just preferences. I dislike the most popular canon normative pairings in a few of my fandoms and yet I continue to follow the series (it's rare since I'm usually a canon shipper with a side of wild, wild crack or subtle subtext) because really romance isn't THE end of everything.

AxI is ♥ The numbers (http://community.livejournal.com/hellsing/1286693.html) should make that obvious.

I usually dislike the canon pairings, actually, and it doesn't ruin my enjoyment, either.

For as much as I enjoy shipping, it really doesn't make or break a fandom for me. If anything, it's just a sort of added bonus. I can't fathom why people take it so seriously sometimes.

With that said, yeah, I would have been a little disappointed had AxI not ended up as canon. :P But I don't think I would have gotten all butthurt or anything.

Uh huh. Unless the Manga's main genre IS indeed romance? It shouldn't, really.

I think the fandom should have realized Hirano's not invested in subtle romance or great triangles... when discussing OMG this and this will happen. Why would he? I mean, Hellsing. AxI and PxS begin as, IMO, Dracula/the Mina, The Lucy/The Lucy's LI stock characters in spin offs PLUS both have typical romantic formula. Knight/lady & Bickering Couple. Then throws in the same arc repeated again. Guy likes girl and harasses her/taunts her, girl tells him off/plays difficult because she's a Virgin (but she likes him), they are a team, some romantic implication/flirting disturbed by war1!1!, the girl watches the guy "die", gets ballistic on the murderer, killer dies by the girl's hand. Boy returns.

They live happily ever after. Sorta.

Throw in a romantic title (The Man I Love? Romancia?) for us to know it what was Hirano's aim.

Seriously. It wasn't so hard. Hirano freely gave us the same arc with both couples. LOLOL. That's probably his concept of fictional romance, IMO.

I'm surprised AxI ended on a HAPPY note. I was expecting something tragic, but Hirano hates dark stuff, admitted it on an interview.

MIGHTY EDIT:

Boy returns in an upgrade way that will actually defeat any obstacle their relationship had. Pip is always with Seras. Alucard becomes a symbolic "man", IMO, so he can be Integra's equal.

God, Zorin and Schrödinger/Major plot devices galore.
