yeah, we have quite a few horror images today. I prefer nude and sex images to horror pics, tbh.

It's your lucky week...

I submitted a secret with nudity AND sex, so keep an eye out for it!

I kinda get this anon. I love scary/creepy stuff but if I read (or watch) anything like that before bed I'll more than likely have a bad sleep paralysis episode. You'd think I'd learn but sometimes I really don't...

Anyway, generally I do try to stick to fluffy silly stuff in the hour or two before sleep.

I always have to watch something fun or funny after watching something scary. And I always have to be sitting with my back pressed against something and often with my feet off the ground.

I'm nearing 40.

You're not alone!

I generally avoid reading scary stuff before going to bed (even have the same reading setup as you) because I don't want any possible bad dreams. Never happened but you never know!

I am almost thirty and one time I read the synopsis of a stephen king book, right before I went to bed and could not sleep all night. So, don't feel bad.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-25 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Nothing wrong with that! Like others here, I've had to go watch something happy after scaring myself silly, too, and I'm also in my 30s. Just 'cause we're adults now doesn't mean stuff can't still creep us out, right? IF that method helps you, go with it :)!

Also, that image...1) holy childhood flashbacks; 2) Legit jumped when I saw that picture :p.

I have this issue but with TV shows/Movies. I always need to follow up the horror with something wholesome before I sleep. Probably because then the horror isn't the last thing I am thinking about when I close my eyes.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-25 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, I do the stacking books under not scary books thing too.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-26 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
I do this too because if I don't, I honestly end up having scary nightmares. I'm around the same age range as you too.

THAT BOOK

Anyway, I've never had a problem reading 'scary' things, except for one story in That Book. But my sister did so I can totally understand what you're saying!

(Anonymous) 2020-10-26 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
HDU do this to me OP, lol

I altogether avoid reading scary shit at night, but when I do, I have to keep going until reach a non scary part too. Also that picture is one of the many that freaked me out as a kid #ScaryStoriestoReadintheDark shudder

(Anonymous) 2020-10-26 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Pshaw! Whadda ya talk! Don't even worry about this, everyone gets scared pretty much.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-26 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
Perfectly fair, scary is scary.

I've literally fallen asleep on the couch while comfort-watching a horror movie marathon... I sometimes cozy up for late night horror reading, as well. But if I had copies of those Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark with the original illustrations? Ohh you bet your ass I'd be burying them under a few 'friendlier' books, that stuff's horrific.

It kind of reminds me of when I was younger and if there was a photo of an author on the back of a book, I couldn't leave it sitting with the back up as it felt like they were watching me!

The things our brains do don't always make sense.
