I think it's neat from an SFX standpoint and an acting one too. It takes a lot of shared skill between artists working together to pull off believable scenes. In regards to an audience that might enjoy it: it's pretty much like the Roman Colosseum, but more humane since no one actually gets hurt. People have been watching other people die as a form of entertainment for a very long time and torture porn, assuming it's of the fictional variety, is arguably a step up from what we used to have.
