I mean with that picture choice I'm loling and going yeah true, but...

A moment's thought later? I only need one hand to count the number of what I would consider plotty, non-shallow cartoons from the last five years, and if I think back to my own childhood I can guaranfuckingtee you that Short Circuit, Ghostbusters, and Star Wars were not at any point considered better than cartoons.

It's tough when you get an impression and you can't shake how it feels, even if some examination of the points reveals that your impression doesn't reflect truth. It still feels like you're right, OP.

I don’t know if you’d call Steven Universe or whatever good, but it’s definitely not To Sell Toys in the same way Pokemon or Transformers is: https://tfwiki.net/wiki/To_sell_toys And it does seem like stuff like the MCU and the Star Wars reboots went for To Sell Toys, even if not to Transformers levels.
