That's unfair, cartoons are definitely *better* than they were in the 80s/90s

I don't know, there are some shitty cartoons now and there were some great ones in the 90's, I think both eras are a real mixed bag cartoon-wise.

I feel like most of the good 90s cartoons were comedies. And it felt to me - I know they don't say it - but it seemed to me more like OP is talking about more dramatic or action-oriented cartoons.

OP's point was about properties that served as pure vehicles for merchandising vs properties that did not, not drama vs comedy. This is moving the goalpost.
