I don't mind that horror often = death, but I prefer horror that gets under your skin/hits you later when you're just randomly thinking about unrelated stuff. I've never really got along with excessive gore.

It's just not scary to me most of the time. I don't find being made to feel sick scary, I just find it annoying. In my mind it's easy to squick people out by having guts spraying everywhere but it takes a lot more effort to present a subtle scare that is more focused on an unknown concept or a regular mundane thing that can be turned into something frightening.
