Eh, I'm not a big fan but I watch them because that IS what freaks me out. It makes me really uncomfortable and I hate, hate, hate flesh and the ways it can be mangled and destroyed. If the movie actually leans into developing the characters (which is honestly kind of rare), than that's even worse because I do have a strong empathetic reaction. So for me, gory movies like Martyrs or Hostel are more scary because they tap into what I fear. But, as stated by previous people here, this is an opinion.
