(Anonymous) 2020-10-26 11:23 pm (UTC)(link)With writing, it's about the style and skill, and an author who really hits my narrative tastes in a way that appeals to me once is more likely to do it again.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-26 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)Same for writing and seeing how a writer I’ve liked approaches different genres or changes over time (admittedly - not always to my liking).

IF I ever did, though, yeah, I probably wouldn't stick around just for the actor, unless they were in, like, a major role or something. If they were in there for five minutes at most, then I wouldn't bother.

(Anonymous) 2020-10-27 08:39 pm (UTC)(link)and if I had to watch master figure skaters skating to super annoying music, I'd probably switch to something else. for that matter I also don't give a shit about team sports, no matter the mastery and skill involved, because it's just arbitrary rules and uncomfortable tribalism to me. I played soccer and basketball for years and it's still just...okay. glad y'all like it, I guess?
I mean you've got this mastery metaphor but how much time do you spend on youtube watching master woodworkers or whatever? that's not the only component, even if it's something you appreciate. parasocial relationships aren't necessarily bad, they're just...a thing our brains do.
