It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with attraction? Some actors are just good actors and people enjoy watching them ply their craft the same way you enjoy watching a talented musician perform.

Like, I'm a straight woman and not attracted to Helen Mirren in the slightest, but I think she's a phenomenal actress and if you told me that she was starring in a particular movie, I would want to see it just for that reason. I know that, even if the rest of the acting isn't up to snuff and the movie is boring, she'll deliver an excellent performance and that in itself will be enjoyable for me.

Quite a few of the replies to this secret have seemed like that's the case? I'm just explaining my take.

here's the thing for me:

if you told me Helen Mirren was in a movie, I'd be willing to give it a chance just for her. but if I turn it on and the writing is shitty, I'm not sitting through the whole thing just for Helen Mirren when there are plenty of other moves with great performances that don't irritate me being dumb or boring or whatever

better example: Meryl Streep. Amazing actress. Has a career that has run the absolute gamut in both quality and genre. I'm not going to watch the parts of it I know I won't like even if she's genuinely good in them, because....movies are made of many more pieces than performance. It's like "well, I love potatoes but I hate carrots, guess I'll have this carrot and potato soup". No why?? there's other potato dishes in the world.
