I do this, and I am ace. For me it has more to do with managing my expectations of the film quality; ie, "Actor was in X > X was good > Actor is going to be in Y > Y will probably be good." Ive been burned too mamy times by watching something that sounded interesting but I didnt like any of the actors so I had trouble engaging. (Apparently even if I dont want to bang someone I still have to have an aesthetically pleasing face hit that Happy Chemical Button for me.)

Does it always work? No, of course not. Sometimes the work is severely not to my taste and I will turn it off if it's boring.

But it also has introduced me to new genres of film, and Ive watched things that I never would have bothered with before if that actor hadnt been in them. It also helps me find other actors I like-- cant tell you the amount of times I watched Movie X for Actor A but was more impressed by Actor B so i had to go find movies Y and Z to see more of them. (I also do this with directors or writers. Im more willing to trust them even if I dont know the cast.)

I mean, it works better than just watching every entry into a particular genre. I love horror movies but I cant be arsed to watch every single one; lots of them fucking SUCK.
