Well, for certain conservative sections of Christianity, heaven doesn't begin until end times when sin is destroyed because there can't be any sin in heaven. So in their minds for Christians who die, their souls are asleep until the end. And asleep in Jesus because they had faith in him, so they are in him.

Huh, I never knew that. I've never come across that phrase before so I was very confused. It makes a lot more sense when you put it that way, I have to say!
