(Anonymous) 2020-11-01 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)And, like, who the fuck even writes het A/B/O fic? It's got to be a smallish group, an insider would definitely know!

(Anonymous) 2020-11-02 12:06 am (UTC)(link)As someone who generally reads het (and it's OC/MC) based, I can tell you now there are quite a few fandoms with this in the pocket. Particularly Alpha MC with Omega or Beta OC. They tend to be one shots, some have a few more chapters.
It's something I'm into at times for a number of reasons if I'm in the mood. It boils down to everyone is extra aroused, leads to dubcon, and other kinks that work for a number of people, especially if the OC is resistant (although sometimes it's more of a "being taken care of/absolute object of desire" element that is the angle taken). Eh different folks different strokes.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-02 12:13 am (UTC)(link)It's not a huge thing. It's different than all the werewolf, or veela fic you get though. But, err, I think you see everything in Harry Potter at least once.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-02 12:58 am (UTC)(link)I almost want to say I've seen that ABO éléments (at least the Alpha stuff) involved with Lupin or Fenrir, but maybe I'm just imagining it.
But I've definitely read ABO Dramione at least once.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-01 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)I'm not sure why her reporting on the old het abo fiction drama as a, well, youtube vloger, means that she was involved in any drama when she was in fandom?
I kinda see what you mean, OP, all this snark and all, but I personaly mostly see it as coming from Lindsay's years as vloger/Nostalgia Chick/etc, not necessarily experience in past fandom drama

(Anonymous) 2020-11-01 10:59 pm (UTC)(link)I know this because she talked about it on an occasional podcast that she does about musical theater that she does with some friends of hers.
Here it is: MusicalSplaining (link: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9tdXNpY2Fsc3BsYWluaW5nLmxpYnN5bi5jb20vcnNz). It's okay. It's pretty clearly a podcast where it's some friends who are fucking around and having fun. So it's not terrible, but it's not great. And it isn't like they are churning out episodes like a machine.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-01 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)as a fandom turned self published author, there's a reason I don't associate my fandom stuff with my books. One) they aren't serial numbers filed off stories and I doubt anyone in my old fandoms would CARE. And two) the overwhelming majority of "popular" ex-fandom turned published authors we hear about use really terrible marketing tactics and are downright horrible people. So, the ones you DON'T hear about, kind of end up wallowing in obscurity.
Unless they're like Naomi Novak, Seanan McGuire, and apparently Mercedes Lackey.
On the other hand, having been/being part of the INDIE author community, it's really, really... bad. The lack of understanding about copyrights, trademarks, and the purpose of reviews is overwhelmingly prevalent. (I had an entire convo with one dude about how you can't copyright titles or ideas.)
It's like watching some of the fandom issues we had five to ten or even fifteen years ago seeping into indie/trad publishing while the 20 yr old college somethings screech about sensitivity readers who didn't EXIST before 2010. And when you bring up stuff like strikethrough they go "I don't know about that... " and I'm like "obviously, YOU NEED TO." So, yeah, you get the people with posses there too over ORIGINAL works and just "I don't like you and think you ought to fail."
Then, they don't buy your books so... yeah.
TL:DR... you aren't wrong.
