Hmmm, I'll agree and disagree, in that I do think there's an issue where lazy writers+directors will just slap a couple into sex/make-out territory as a short-hand for romance without doing the emotional work to earn it. But I wouldn't say I always prefer the romances in shows without sex-scenes either because sometimes I think those fail and conveying the romantic aspect too.

I think having the right actors, good writers+directors is way more important than a lack/excess of sex tbh. It's a balance and if you get one of those off then it's not going to work.
