103: You know, I've actually never understood the appeal of Frankie Boyle. EVERYBODY seems to love him but I've never found him more than mildly amusing ^.^; But if i were to see he was ugly, I would be lying XD

119: Okay, not related to the secret but I've not really seen a lot of Hetalia, and I'm definitely not in the fandom, so...Is U.K like actually the U.K or are England, Scotland, N.Ireland, S.Ireland and Wales seperate people? (Hetalia is new and odd and confuzzling to me at the moment) I read a few strips and was VERY confused ^.^;

136: I love Carla but I really wanted to strangle whichever Scrubs writer wrote that. Is the writers for that show predominantly men or what?

119. He gets called U.K., Britain, and England. It confuses me, too. In a comic set way back when Scotland threw something at his head from off screen so I guess it's a separate person (or at least it was). I heard rumours of a Wales showing up someday but I have no clue where they got that from.

So in conclusion: confusion is totally warrented.

But...apparently England representing the whole of the U.K? -Shakes fist- Lol, that's a bit of a missed opportunity, a character with all the characteristics of the whole U.K would be hilarious XD

Yeah, it would be pretty funny. That would be one fucked character!

But England representing the UK in international affairs is pretty spot on about how things actually work. The main gov is run from London, though representatives from all the other countries attend and vote on issues. N. Ireland, Wales and Scotland have first ministers, and their devolved governments can make many decisions on internal affairs in their respective countries, but international affairs are generally run from London and through the Prime Minister of the UK. England doesn't have a first minister, just the prime minister, and all it's internal affairs are run from London as well.

Interestingly, N.Ireland, Scotland and Wales can vote on internal affairs affecting England, but the reverse is not true in many instances!

At least, that's how I think it works. I am no political expert.

There is so much material he could mine from the British Isles alone (not sure how much he could make funny, though). I think the quote 'This is my family. It is little, and broken, but still good. Yeah, still good.' is apt :D

That's just the English language fandom, though (most of the time). Afaik, in Japanese he's always England. And while Japanese usually refer to the entire UK as "England," he mentions his brothers more than once, so apparently he's just England. Only, since historically England was the most dominant country, it's he who represents the entire UK.

Actually, I remember seeing someone asking the same thing from the author... sadly I don't remember his exact reply, only that "England is England." Now, setting aside the fact that "England" = short for "Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland" in informal Japanese, England mentions his "brothers" at least a couple of times (and that they all hate him), so he's probably just England. However, since historically England was the most dominant of all the countries in the British Isles, it's him who represents Great Britain as well.

Aww, huh. I actually live in England but I have an attachment to the rest of the U.K so that bums me out a little ^.^; The fact that the rest of the U.K hates England made my stomach hurt from laughing though XD

I'm glad to hear that. ^^;; I'm an ESL person, but I majored in (Medieval) English history and literature (not that you can tell =_=) and I think that's one of the main reasons why I love England in Hetalia. He's just so much the England I remember from history classes. :D;; (I don't know how British/English readers see him, though...) But I hope the rest of the UK will show up once. xD

136. Yeah, I adore Carla, and really enjoy the show, but every so often I just want to reach through the screen and strangle something. I think the writers must all be guys, or extremely uncritical of some things in popular culture that *are* all written by guys. Because they get it just wrong enough sometimes. *sigh*
