He's a slightly simple-minded coward who spends all day making white flags with Germany and carries pasta everywhere. I can see how that stereotype would annoy.
Then again, I think the French have more reason to complain seeing as France spends pretty much all his time either fighting England or molesting people.

Actually, there's two Italys in Hetalia: Northern Italy (which is the one you see in all of the secrets here), and Southern Italy.

Northern Italy portrayed as pretty useless at most things, naive, and completely reliant on Germany for everything. Southern Italy is srs bznss all the time and gets angry over pretty much everything.

I actually took one look at 'England' represented by the Union Jack, drinking tea and bitching about English usage all in one panel and hit the back button. I knew right then that series was going to do nothing but piss me off.

The whole UK thing is a bit messed up in Hetalia, I agree. (But from what I've come across on the web and irl, this is a pretty common mistake. I have met Americans who didn't even realise that the GB and Ireland are separate land masses separated by the Irish sea! And apparently it is common in Japan to use England to refer to the whole UK.) I just shrug it off, myself, and educate those I can can.

Scotland is a separate entity to England in Hetalia, so I think we can assume the other UK countries are, too.

I found that as long as you can accept that it is all purposely based on stereotypes, rather than what the country is actually like, it can be quite amusing. Doesn't work for everyone, though. ):

But then, I'm in Japan, and at least two or three people who I've told I'm Scottish have cocked my head at me and said 'where's that?', so I'm resigned to being English while I'm here. At least Americans all know Scotland/(N) Ireland exist. I'd include Wales, but that's not strictly true...

This is fair enough. I realised it was based on stereotypes when I went to read, but I didn't realise it would be so overt, I guess. XD

Yeeeeeah, it's definitely not for everyone. Though the nice thing about Hetalia is that you'll know if you like it within 3 or 4 strips at the most, so you won't end up reading volumes and volumes before suddenly going 'what the hell, this is all wrong' if you don't like it.
