131. I support this secret. It bothers me any time I see artists pay close attention to and put stock in the praise of their audience. If I'm going to create something, I'm going to work on it for my pleasure, until it meets my standards of quality -- if you like it too, that's great, but I'm not doing it for your praise. I'm doing it to create something beautiful (however defined) and to express some idea or emotion.

I mean, I understand that someone who is posting here is obviously in fandom themselves and cares a lot about fandom in general, hence their preoccupation with their own potential fandom. But, really, focus on your fucking book and don't get distracted thinking about the fanfiction it may or may not generate, FFS.

While I appreciate the dreams of a fandom, please don't tell me how amazing said fandom will be on F!S. People who brag about the books they're writing are doing it for all the wrong reasons, and I've gotten past the point of annoyance to plain amusement.
