My dad told me that when he went to Egypt, he went through the market and the merchants would ask him IN EVERY LANGUAGE IMAGINABLE if he could understand just so they could sell him stuff.

I lol'ed and thought of Hetalia.

That sounds about right! It's especially funny when they don't believe my mom and I are Egyptian (i.e. WE ALREADY HAVE ALL THIS STUFF AND DON'T NEED ANY MORE) and still try to sell us tourist junk like plastic Nefertiti heads. XD Though I have to say Turkish merchants are just as persistent, if not more so - they talk to you outside, find out where you're from, offer you tea, and then try to get you to buy a rug for 2,000 lira. ^^

I haven't heard anecdotes about Turkish merchants, though, but lmfao. Try to get you tea? Do they make you pay for it?

Ah, but the tea is FREE! THAT'S HOW THEY GET YA. XDDD Damn rug shop owners and their persuasion into buying shit you don't need by being really nice and offering delicious apple tea. My mom almost BOUGHT a freakin' rug before my dad dragged us out. (Never mind the fact that our house is almost entirely wall-to-wall carpet, lolz.)
