Jolta Here. To play devil's advocate. As much as I... like James. I must agree with militarypenguin up there. James is selfish, he did a bad thing. But that doesn't mean he doesn't regret it. He is basically the representation of humanity and what it means to be imperfect. That's why he's easy to sympathize with. I wouldn't have him any other way.

And I'd like to remind you that Silent Hill does not have fixed answers and as such James could be a raving psychopath or as innocent as a kitten. SH2 is left open so you can decide what James was feeling.

Uh, yes exactly. But he's not exactly blameless. What I enjoyed about it was the fact that it was a very gray area. James is neither good nor bad, he's just a normal guy who made a mistake under strained circumstances.

SH DOES NOT ASSIGN JAMES ALIGNMENT. You are deciding that James made a mistake, the game is not. Stop putting your opinion down as fact, James may feel guilty but that does not mean his actions are positive or negative, just his emotional state.

...He killed his wife. The monsters were almost all a symbolism of how he wasn't able to bang his wife while she was sick.

Sure, James isn't a blackhearted villain who laughs maliciously as he kicks puppies, but he's not an innocent little man who did a great thing either. The gray area is fun, but you gotta be whack if you think he's innocent in any form or way.

But...James himself confesses that what he did was wrong, that his motivations were selfish, and that he needed to be punished for what he did.

I agree that James is a character that can't be labeled precisely, but his individual actions, on the other hand, are a different story.
