"there's going to be switching implied to prove that it's totally woke you guys."

I've got to say, I've been reading and writing m/m fic for a long, long time and I've never actually seen that in fic. I've seen people say you should write it, and I've seen people complain about it, but I've never witnessed it in the wild.

Nayrt
I've seen it quite a bit but what I've seen more is people very pointedly switching the top/bottom characters that are more often written that way to... get the same strict top/bottom dynamic, but because they choose the characters that are not usually the top/bottom it's totally more woke!

Do they say that's why they do it? They might just write it that way because they want to see the character they like in a top/bottom role.

I have, in fact, seen people say they're writing/drawing a character as the bottom/top on purpose because "everyone else" does the opposite and claim it's because all those other people are homophobic (implying they themselves aren't).

i mean i've written the opposite of a fandom preference just because i got bored and wanted some variety, but i also don't truss up my m/m shipping as activism, because it really isn't.
