I kind of half agree. I've seen many people betting everything on fanart/fanfic because it gives them an easier time to work from home etc, but refusing to see that many of the bigger artists who can keep up their current lifestyle started while working full time and created a stable network before jumping into commissions.

I agree it's ableist to say "get a fucking job" but we should also put up a side note, that there are tons of people, young adults, teens out there who want to bet everything on fanworks without looking into how to survive as an artist, then they hit the ground hard when things don't go their way. I've seen plenty of people (note: people who could actually afford to go job hunting) beg for money almost on a monthly basis because they couldn't get commissions.

Not to mention that, in order to make money off of any sort of art or writing, you HAVE to be churning out stuff on a regular, steady basis. You can't just do it when you feel like it, you have to be taking commissions all the time and you have to draw/write what you're being paid for whether you're excited about it or not.

Actually making a living as an artist isn't fun, it's a job just like any other job.

"making money bring a freelance fan creator is really hard" is just a totally different message from "get a fucking job you lazy fucks"
