I'm really surprised nobody commented on this. I get what you're saying, OP; if they make the mentor a father figure, they tend to kind of nope out of a lot of interaction and emotion. Not sexual stuff, but close physical intimacy and some emotional intimacy as well.

I'm totally down with a 'ship that is gen but is cuddly, close, emotional and 'i would die for you', with that extra bit of 'i am your fill-in parental figure and i will teach you life and skills and things' vibe, too.

Is that what you mean at all?
