I still ship this pairing, even though I don't love the Hobbit movies so much anymore. I can't help it, I just really love cross-species relationships.

And I love happy AUs too. Most of my Tolkien ships end tragically (or horrifically), so occasionally it is nice to read an AU where the characters get to be happy and love each other forever.

The first two Hobbit movies are fine as long as you don't think about them too hard. The last one was such a mess. And I kind of wish that someone would 'Phantom Edit' the whole trilogy, because I do think there's one decent movie buried under all that padding.

But also, yes. Despite those kinds of fics generally not being my thing, this is one of the ships I'll read all the "and everybody lived" AUs for.

I still enjoy watching them just because there are specific scenes I like. Even the third one has a few good scenes. But way too over-padded with unnecessary stuff. Story could have been decently told in 2 movies, which would have still given us enough time to bond with and care for the characters. But I do still rewatch them, though not nearly as frequently as LOTR. And I think one of the few things they got right was showing the developing Bilbo and Thorin bond.

Yup, Everyone lives is not usually my cup of tea, except in this fandom. I love these characters too much and sometimes just want them to be happy.
