Is fandom not horny? I think it depends on which fandoms maybe? I haven't seen a downturn in smutty stuff and horny stuff on Tumblr, at least not in my fandom. And I continue to get kudos on my PWP fics.

I do think, though, that there is a sense of kink-shaming that I don't like and trying to "cancel" people for their fantasies and fictional wank material. Not in my fandom, but I've seen it in other places. I avoid the Flightrising tumblrs because they are full of it.

This must be very fandom-specific, because it's not something I've experienced even a tiny little bit in my fandoms. If anything I'd say they're hornier and kinkier than ever.

I'm not being facetious. I've been away from fandom communities since the start of 2020 for my own mental health, decided to participate in kink communities instead, and I realized both how liberating and how peaceful it feels to finally do stuff without fearing you're stepping on any toes.

I'm from outside the US. To me, americans, both the "think-of-the-children" puritans and the "your-kink-is-problematic" police, are really sexually frustrated, to the point of being afraid of expressing any sort of sexuality.

I don't mean this in a bad way, but you're going to be way happier with people like you. It's a matter of finding them. Your own happiness with a work and with a kink matter far more than the community you think you ought to stay in.

I admit I meant in kink communities focusing in your particular kink. Given I'm a degenerate, those communities were easy enough to find for me, but in your case, I'd begin with searching discord channels focusing on the kink(s) you may have, and seeing which ones do you fit in the best.

They will be smaller communities, but they are easier to manage, and the bonds you make there will be stronger than those of random fans.

Right, I think part of the issue is that more people use their real names online now. That just wasn't a thing in the early 00s when I started in fandom. If you share on a public medium like Twitter you either need to have no problem with having your real name attached to it, or have a very carefully compartmentalized fandom presence.

I don't go near Tumblr so I can't talk about that and maybe it's your fandoms but I have seen a huge upswing in smut in all of my old fandoms over the last 5 years. People are humping keyholes and doorknobs they are that thirsty. Story quality has suffered as result but you can't have everything, I guess.

I came back to a dearly-loved fandom after nearly 20 years away, only to find haters bitching in the public tags about my ship when it was never a problem back then.

Fandom really has gone to pot in certain sections of the internet.
