Oh hai thar, fellow FrUK!comm member who hung out elsewhere mainly for wank *g*

I never cared much for the anime, but I despised the dub anyway.

Lol yes! Honestly I mostly remember the FrUk comm for being a great source for AU fabrics in a time before the AO3 tagging system, they were good times.

I had a lucky upbringing in the fandom at the time because I just kept with some friends... I actually hope these new anime come back is more like the new comics, I checked some and things got better. (There are less history "lessons" and more play with the characters.)

No comment on Funimation, I'm not american and would go for the sub/dubs on my lenguage, I do remenber cheking it and thinking it was really bad but at the time it wasn't the first time I saw a english dub being super bad and nonsensicon to the original material so I just though it was a thing there...

I only dipped my toes in the tag for less than five minutes out of morbid curiosity and I've already seen two posts condemning the incest ships so... it'll certainly be interesting considering those were among the juggernaut ships back inthe day.

For the most part, I like Funimation dubs, even when they take some liberties with the script (the dub for YYH was amazing), but I did not like the Hetalia dub. The Holocaust jokes were the worst ones, but there were others inserted that were in poor taste. There were a few moments that were meant to be serious, but Funimation inserted bad jokes into those moments and ruined them. Really bugged me. I'm curious if they'll do that this time around if they decide to dub it.

Yeah, Funimation has had some good ones and some bad ones. This was definitely one of the bad ones.

I know someone who’s been getting hate messages on and off for years because people keep assuming the drawing of himself he uses as his Tumblr avatar is a character from this show.

I'm sorry your time in fandom was no good.

After the anime/manga announcement, people have been getting hate messages and wank exploded once more.

It wasn't a bad fandom experience for me, but I never liked UK or France so maybe that had something to do with it?

NGL I remember getting harassed by a America/England shipper on livejournal when there was a discussion on favorite ships in the Hetalia comms because I was shipping England with France. Then again drama over shipping is hardly new in any fandom, but it was the first time someone took my preference so personally.

My memory of this fandom is dim but I'm finding it hard to understand why a US/UK shipper has any group to stand on for judgement. Not that I'm judging THEM for their country shipping choices but...seriously?

(Anonymous) 2020-11-08 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure it happened in the fairly early days of the fandom around the time the original anime were getting released and fan-subbed - so think it was a little before US/UK shippers got their reputation in the fandom (hence why it surprised me a little at the time on why someone would get so upset over a ship)
