I really prefer to have my fandom experience away from children, too. There's no way to phrase this in a way that doesn't sound kind of douchey, but young fans rarely contribute anything to a fandom that's up to my standards as an adult, be it art, fic, or critical analysis. Not that adults always do, either, but I also keep away from the adults in fandom who don't spark joy.
