Not the secret maker, but Zira for Aziraphale drives me up the wall.

It does seem to be weirdly rampant in the Good Omens fandom

This was exactly what immediately popped in my mind as I read the secret.

Oh god, that's awful. I'm not in the GO fandom, but off the top of my head, I think "Angel" is the only "nickname" I'd get behind for Crowley to call Aziraphale.

I mean, he might end up dropping the A on the front sometimes, but that's not a nickname so much as just how we get lazy with pronunciation when we're speaking casually.

Agreed. Especially for someone like Crowley, for whom names are important, I don't think he would abbreviate Aziraphale's name without being told. It's "angel" or nothing, damnit!

BIG same! The use of 'Zira' or 'Azi' is always an instant backbutton for me.

Also, any time an IT fic uses 'chee' for Richie, I'm filled with the rage of a thousand white hot suns, I just... Richie is already a damn nickname and if you want to shorten it further it's 'Rich'.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-17 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
I suppose Chee is slightly better than Ich?

(Anonymous) 2020-11-17 11:30 am (UTC)(link)
Iiee as a nickname might fall somewhere between the two, I'm sure.

You have to pronounce that like you’re singing zydeco.

Ayeee!

This sort of shit is why I'll miss the original Good Omens fandom. Yeah, there was a massive lack of content but at least it wasn't written by thirsty Tennant fangirls.

It's so hard to find fic that isn't based on the Amazon series.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-17 11:32 am (UTC)(link)
Mehh, I don't think Tennant is to blame here. TV fandom is unfortunately just like that these days.

(Anonymous) 2020-11-17 07:56 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who was in original Good Omens fandom, people called Aziraphale Zira in fics back then, too! I was really hoping it wouldn't pop up again in the new iteration, but blaming it on thirsty Tennant fans is inaccurate and reductionist.
