*shrugs* I feel the same way about alternative medicine, homeopathy and all that nonsense. But to me, this pulse-reading stuff is the stuff of fantasy. That goes double when the media is set in a really, really obvious fantasy setting like Ashes of Love where there are just... so many absurd things. It's not even historical fantasy, it's xianxia which means gods and goddesses, magical talking creatures, magic swords, magic herbs, magic pills, etc. etc.

+1 Stuff like this is about as good an example of medical knowledge as western fantasy involving leeches. Was it done? Sure was. Do we know better now? Yep. Are there better/more accurate examples to point to? Yep. Just not here in this fantasy fun drama show.

Or, not even leeches, but something like alchemy.

IMO more Western fantasy should lean into alchemical theory. Go nuts, y'all. Make some shitty homunculi. Poison yourself with mercury. Go big or go home.

Also the four humors. Need more of that.

Leeches ABSOLUTELY have legitimate medical uses in the present day, buddy.

IAWTP

it's one thing if it's supposed to be medicine, and quite another thing if it's supposed to be magic

imho

Yeah, it's one thing if the show was modern and doing this, that would be annoying. But a really over the top fantasy show set in unspecified ~ye olde times where there's literal magic? Who cares?
