bloodletting is still therapy of choice of Polycythemia vera for those unable to tolerate the chemotherapy agents. rare but still used.

But that's not how it's usually used in fiction, isn't it? Just like the legitimate instances of Chinese traditional medicines yielding scientific breakthroughs previously mentioned in this thread aren't the focus of wuxia magic healing either.
